Seminars

Current seminars:

TEJO holds seminars on many different topics such as language rights, Europe and training of activists. They take place several times each year and are organised both by TEJO and in collaboration with its Special Interest and National Branches. It is also possible to take part in training seminars arranged by e.g. European bodies as a representative of TEJO. Our seminars are an excellent way to get to know other TEJO members and the organisation.

General information about seminars

Looking in from outside, seminars are among the most noticeable activities of TEJO. They:

  • occur regularly at least two times every year
  • deal with varied and topical issues
  • usually incorporate training elements
  • are sometimes open to the non-Esperanto world as well and have an important role for external relations

During seminars, Esperanto most often turns up as a tool, a working language or a philosophy to solve communicational and other problems of modern society, and is not a theme in itself.

And looking from within, the seminars grant young members of the movement, almost totally independently of their ability to pay, the chance to:

  • meet and get to know each other "in real life" (the Internet is good but has its limits)
  • exchange experiences and ideas
  • begin and realise collaborations
  • and much more

If you are interested in helping to organize a seminar or have questions, comments or suggestions write to seminarioj@tejo.org.

How do seminars help the movement to go forward?

TEJO's seminars help the central activists to meet up, gain experience in concrete topics and develop projects. At these seminars projects are born such as:

  • lernu! - an essential step forward in language teaching techniques, now used as the primary learning resource for Esperanto in twenty-five languages (meaning several thousand sequences of text) in tens of lands and by thousands of users (more than 10,000)
  • Lingva Prismo - an undeniable contribution by Esperantists to language diversity
  • Interkulturo - a network of fora for practical use of Esperanto in intercultural communication

Very occasionally, seminars also take place in collaboration with a non-Esperantist organization, which helps make Esperanto more visible among non-Esperantists in a positive light. At least one current Board member of TEJO was drawn to Esperanto at precisely this sort of seminar.
