Home > Aliaj > Second and last call to become a TEJO volunteer 2025/2026!

As part of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC – formerly “European Voluntary Service”), the World Esperanto Youth Organization (TEJO) invites you to become a full-time TEJO volunteer at our Central Office in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

ESC is open to young applicants whose age is between 18 and 30 years and who have a residence permit in the countries listed at the end. The volunteering will last ideally 12 months, enabling the volunteers to get the whole experience. Ideally, it will start on the 1st of October. As a volunteer, you will certainly learn to work independently and will be able to deepen your experience about the tasks mentioned below, among others.

The minimum duration is 3 months of volunteering. However, we are looking for candidates aiming to volunteer for 12 months. If you are interested but have any doubts, please contact us and we will happily answer them.

The last day to apply is August 26th!

More details about the volunteer program:

TEJO is looking for 1 volunteer, who will volunteer in a team with 2 other young people. The volunteering period covers the period until January 31st, 2027. Ideally, the start date will be October 1st, 2025, but it is possible to agree on another start date.

Being a volunteer at TEJO means significantly contributing to the well-being of the organization, while at the same time you get personal improvements. The volunteers are at the heart of the Esperanto movement – the Central Office of the Universal Esperanto Association (UEA) and TEJO -, can collaborate on very interesting projects (e.g. organizing events, information activities, campaigns, developing online projects, etc.), participate in events representing TEJO and collaborate in an international environment in the specific fields of activity of the organization.

We count on support for the following tasks (the tasks will be assigned according to the personal interests, experience and skills of the volunteers. The volunteers will get support and training so they can learn how to perform the tasks):

  • daily administrative tasks of the organization;
  • attendance and taking minutes during meetings and joint planning of the organization’s future strategies;
  • handling TEJO’s mail (paper and online) and maintenance of the archives;
  • information about TEJO’s activities during Esperanto and non-Esperanto congresses and seminars: presenting the organization, hosting TEJO stands, program co-planning, etc.;
  • representation of TEJO at international events and conferences: participation in events of the European Youth Forum (FoJE), UNITED conferences, UNOY forums (United Network of Young Peacebuilders) or United Nations, etc.;
  • participation in diverse and multilingual trainings, online and in person, according to your interests;
  • active cooperation in updating TEJO’s website and social media channels, including creating new content and translating material to other languages;
  • active support to the activities of TEJO’s board members and commissioners on the topics you like the most;
  • helping the organization worldwide and local volunteering during Esperanto events, for example during the International Youth Congress (IJK);
  • contribution to writing grant applications for Erasmus+ and Council of Europe (CoE) and co-management of projects;
  • shipping of our magazine Kontakto.

The ideal candidate:

  • has a good knowledge of Esperanto and if not, is ready to learn the language before or immediately after the start of the volunteering period1;
  • likes administrative work, mostly done on computer (basic knowledge of e-mails, internet use, word processing, creating presentations, etc.);
  • is able to make decisions independently;
  • is able to work in a team and express oneself appropriately in group situations;
  • is prepared to actively cooperate with the TEJO team in relation to the general tasks of the organization;
  • has knowledge of the European youth structures and European bodies;
  • never participated in an ESC project before.

1 Since our working language is Esperanto, we will provide language courses free of charge before the volunteering period starts and during the first months of volunteering, if the selected volunteer does not speak Esperanto well enough beforehand.

Those are the characteristics of the ideal candidate. Therefore, we are aware that it is difficult to have all of them. In addition, between the selection and the start of the volunteering, there will still be enough time to improve some characteristics, and we will adapt the workload and tasks accordingly. So, don’t hesitate to apply even if you don’t check all the boxes from this list!

Ideally, you will volunteer for one year and your start date will be agreed upon (ideally from October 1st, 2025). You will receive pocket money every month, free accommodation and reimbursement of the travel costs to get to Rotterdam and to return home. Volunteering at TEJO will also cover costs derived from participation in various Esperanto events.

How to apply:

Send your application by email to kandidatigxoj@tejo.org or on the European Youth Portal, and don’t forget to attach:

  • a CV (describing your formal and informal education, movement activism, extra-movement experiences, and so on);
  • a cover letter (describing why you want to volunteer at TEJO).

The application period is open until August 26th. Please do not wait until the end to submit your application: Submit yours as soon as possible!

If you have any additional questions about the program, assignments, allowance and housing, please do not hesitate to contact us at kandidatigxoj@tejo.org.

Attention!  The TEJO volunteer will work in our Central Office in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Citizens of the European Union or the European Economic Area can live and work in the Netherlands without problems, but citizens from most other countries need a work and residence permit. The Netherlands has difficulty providing volunteers with visas, unlike other countries. Therefore, the Netherlands only allows us to accept volunteers if you have the nationality of or a residence permit in the European Union or the European Economic Area.
